This is broken into two sections based on her last name, and additional sections with the Hocker name, but different locations. Please recognize that I do not have all the information I would like to have before she became Carol Hocker. Please be patient, writing captions to all these pictures is daunting.
Many thanks to Ron Monroe for filling in details of Carol when she was Carol Liddiard.
Carol Liddiard
I found your website last week, and wasn't sure it was the same Carol, except that was her in the high school picture, and me with Carol and Toody in the second picture.
It used to be a competition between Toody and me, as to who Carol would play with. Jeannie was 3 years older than us, and I think Toody was two years younger. It was no big deal back then for one of us to cross the street, and play unsupervised. Carol's grandmother lived upstairs, maybe she was watching from her window..
Carol and I were going to take swimming lessons together, I think when we were about 6, but I had a fear of putting my head underwater, and dropped out.
I lived across the street from carol, until I was 8, when my parents had to move.
Have you ever been to Rutland Vermont? We lived near the base of a hill that lead to Dana Elementary school, and had to walk at least a mile to get there and back. I had asthma and sometimes I would rely on my dad for a ride..
Carol and I would play tiddlywinks or pickup sticks, and go to the local store, like a 7-eleven, that was across the street. It was owned by neighbors, and they knew us pretty well. If we bought snacks, I would buy something sweet, and she would buy a box of pretzels, for a nickel.
Once in a while Jeanie would play with us, teaching new games or telling us ghost stories. Billie Hackett lived next door on the north side of Carol. He was probably one or two years younger than us, and sometimes would play with us as well. But, his older brother was a bully, all the way through high school.
Toody's real name was Gertrude, but, she didn't like her name, and couldn't pronounce her "r"s, so Trudy became Toody. I have also lost contact with her,. Maybe Carol left an address for her?
My mom or Hazel said that Carol was born very underweight. I don't think she was a "premie", but was very small. I wonder if that had an affect on her later years.
I forget where Charlie worked, but I remember he had a Jeep wagon, and later bought a Volkswagen van. That would have been around 1956 or 57..
When my family moved, we moved to North Main street, which, I guess was about 2 miles north. The Rutland swimming pool was about 1/2 a mile further north, and it wasn't unusual for Carol and maybe Toody, would drop by on the way home, and we would play badminton for a bit. The pool was above the ground with leaks. They tore it down about 5 years ago, and I never got a picture of it.
We didn't see a lot after that as I had some personal problems, but Hazel and my mom were friends and every once in a while, Hazel would visit, and brought Carol with her, and we would reminisce about the past. And, for a while, my mom would baby sit for Jean's kid, I think I was in college then.
Carol was always an A student. I think I remember her having a problem playing a violin at first because her eye couldn't focus the violin very well. Like the yearbook said, Carol was rather quiet, and I don't remember her joining up with things while in high school. She must have opened up after that.
Thanks for posting the photos, it looks like overall, she was happy. I am sorry to see is gone now.

Carol Adams
Carol kept her last name, Adams, up until she became Carol Hocker. I do not know when she and Tom got divorced in the picture sequence below. Carol always liked Tom, even after they were divorced, and wanted to be Carol Adams Hocker, but I convinced her to be Carol Ann Hocker.
Carol Hocker on Cape Cod
I cheated on the first picture, she was still Carol Adams, but was Ellen’s and my dance friend at Ashokan Fiddle and Dance Camp. Note the tent we were staying in got smashed by a tree limb falling across it. The limb was arched so we didn’t get killed.
Carol Hocker moves to Hilo, Hawaii: Kaiulani Street
We found that we kept trying to make our house on Cape Cod be something like Hawaii. I suggested to Carol that we move to Hilo. She said that she wanted to see it first. We flew out on a perfect day and she said yes to the move as soon as we landed. We bought a house on Kaiulani Street, that was lovely, and tried out Hilo for six months, then went back to Cape Cod to clean things up for the final move. Two weeks before our return we found Carol had MS, and the Kaiulani Street was not viable.
Carol Hocker at Hina Street, Hilo
We looked all over for a house appropriate for someone with MS: Air conditioned, one floor and with a pool for her to exercise in. We found the perfect place in out Hina Street House: no air conditioning, no pool and two floors. We loved the Hina Street house, and added a stair glide and a pool. It was on a hill, and caught the breezes wonderfully.
Carol Hocker in Puueo to 2017
We had bought a lovely area several miles up Amauulu Road in Puueo, and decided to build a house up there. The higher altitude meant it was cooler, and the house we built was all on one floor. It’s a beautiful area, not far from downtown. This was the last stop on Carol’s journey.
Carol Hocker in Puueo after 2016
This is the final section. It covers Carol’s life until her final days.
